I didn't remember the story of Balaam's ass and then I went back and looked at it.

Balaam is riding the donkey. When the donkey sees The Angel of The Lord (which Balaam does not see) the donkey lays under Balaam. Balaam beats the donkey! God miraculous gives the donkey the ability to speak and the donkey asks Balaam why he has beaten him. The Angel of The Lord says he would have killed Balaam if it were not for the donkey.

"Why have you beaten me?" - I am thinking about that question that the donkey of Balaam rides.

I just saw the beautiful movie EO by Jerzy Skolimowski. And it really makes the viewer reflect on how unknowable animals are to humans and how distanced from nature humans are.

Little Peter comes in riding on a donkey colt. too.

I liked the line:

"The hound, in the obtuse world of hounds, nose to the earth, sniffed between patches of dirty snow; its life lived in inches."

I wonder what the world of Tibald in the year 1096 in Norway looked like from the perspective of a donkey or a hound. I wonder how much it would differ from today?
